They were so perfect together – happy, in love and planning for their future, and as the story of their past builds up to their heartbreaking separation, back in the present Riley gets the shock of his life when he sees her again for the first time in five years. Their story is told in flashbacks to the past, and I loved watching their friendship develop over the years from best friends to teenagers in deep, all-consuming, once-in-a-lifetime love. As 8 year olds they developed an instant connection, and they were glued to each other’s sides from that moment on. Lexie was Riley’s best friend from childhood. Home is also full of memories of his childhood, and of his past with his first and only love, Lexie

It’s an awkward trip because as much as he loves his family, his father did not cope well with his arrest and prison sentence, and the two have barely had a civil conversation since he was released. This book sees Riley returning to his home town following a family emergency. His past has been hinted at in previous books of the series, and we know that he once had a great love, but that something went wrong and Riley has never recovered – choosing to lose himself in meaningless hook ups rather than find something meaningful with anybody else. I have loved Riley in the previous books in the series, and have been so excited to finally get his story.
